Went with a group of 4 to Lamalo for a friend's birthday. My friends both enjoy the salmon skewers and we all loved the majadra!
I ordered the red snapper in grape leaves which was good but certainly could have been better. Grape leaves should be easily consumed and almost every other bite had stems in it. I also think the dish could have been further enhanced by adding red onion or tomatoes on the skewer, like they did for the salmon skewer.
While the staff was friendly, great, atmosphere, the food was not "NYC caliber," so I will not be going back.
I’ve stayed at in this area a few times but never had eaten here and wow was I missing out! The dips and salads were tasty and authentic. The service was attentive without being disruptive. I was blown away by the high quality of their bread. I’ll definitely be coming back n
No just don’t waste your money.
We reserved for party of 6 for brunch. The place was empty on a Saturday.
Both the green and red Shakshouka were under seasoned and the eggs were just boiled eggs. The rest was not good either we tried several of the dishes. The chicken is super tiny. The herbs plate had only arugula.
The service was good and the place looks nice.
Would not go back and would not recommend.
This is a bread and dip lovers haven. Everything else is subpar. The skewers and sides (harissa chicken, lamb, salmon, potatoes, rice) were disappointing (portion size and taste). In contrast, the drinks and dessert were delicious. Service was good and space was cozy. I just wish the food was better. While I love instagrammable* food, I love good food even more.
Food is amazing and so well worth the price. It's extraordinary Mezze (dips spreads) and laffa bread. The grilled red snapper in grape leaves is amazing as are the shrimp skewers... Every spread is better than the last one. Loved the hummus and the artichoke spreads and beets and pickle plate. This place is tops in terms of Israeli / Middle Eastern food. Cocktails on the pricer side but food was reasonable for what you get....
Just had a board dinner there as a group. Wow the spread was amazing. All the dips maybe 13 or 14 with the bread to go along with it and then the skewers of meat and fish. It was a great experience but a lot of food. Was super impressed wine one of my fellow diners who packed some of the remaining food for breakfast and also to give away to the less privileged as there was no way to waste that food which was plentiful. All in all pints on all but recommend if the food will be exceed and august so. Excellent service right from the start to the end
Overall rating: 4.4
The pictures and TikToks make this place look so much cooler than it actually is. I didn’t realize this was in the back of a hotel and while I usually don’t mind it, this place hit different. It feels like a backroom for hotel guests vs a restaurant. The lighting and ambiance is terrible.
The staff was friendly. I went on a Thursday around 8 and there was barely anyone there. Too deserted..
The food was good. The octopus was great! But the dips were very small for its steep price. Maybe it’s better with a group.. but it’s not for me.
I definitely didn’t need to leave Brooklyn for this. Would go to another Mediterranean place instead.
While some spreads and bread taste good, ambiance are nice , it’s very costly . We tried bread and spread , lamalo spread ( with skewers and side ) packages . Many spreads/ sides are really sour ( fermented ) . We also tried mocktails …
